Access to Independence DIY Wheelchair Maintenance and Repair Trainings

Access to Independence DIY Wheelchair Maintenance and Repair Trainings  is teaming up with the University of Wisconsin Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology (UW-CREATe) to provide trainings to consumers and professionals about maintaining and repairing power and manual wheelchairs.
The following is an overview of the 3 trainings we are offering. There is no cost to participate and all of the trainings will be held at our office at 301 S. Livingston st., Suite 200. For more information or to register please call Kirsten at 1-800-362-987, ext. 228.

Consumer training - Manual Wheelchairs –

August 3rd 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

This course will cover Manual

wheelchair systems. Participants will learn about and use tools to assist with

inspection and routine maintenance. Attendees will receive wheelchair log

books, inspections checklists, a list of tools, as well as suppliers for these

items.

Consumer training – Power

Wheelchairs – August 4th 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

This course is for powered

wheelchair uses and their caregivers. Participant will learn about their chairs

and requirements for keeping chairs in good repair; when to call a repair

person and routine maintenance and inspection. Attendees receive wheelchair log

books, inspection and routine maintenance checklists.

Professionals training –

Wheelchair Maintenance & Repair –

August 9th 9:30am –11:00am

This course is designed for medical

professionals, whose responsibility includes DME. This training provides a

broader study of wheelchairs including manual and powered wheelchairs. Tools

and inspection methods and routine maintenance items are also covered.
